Sa'idah Sudan is a
hospital emergency department worker and
domestic violence
counselor in Newark, New Jersey. Sister
Sa'idah is the. Founder and Director of
the support and referral
center (Arabic for "House of
Protection") in November, 2003 and is
located in Newark, NJ. to make it easier
for Muslim women to reach
out
for help. Sa'idah is an activist and a
deeply committed advocate for the civil
rights
of Muslims and Non-Muslim alike. She
works effortlessly on behalf of
victims of domestic violence, has
collaborated with many spiritual leaders
and communities across the nation.
Sa'idah Sudan conducts workshops to
raise levels
of
awareness. Her enthusiasm inspired
Muslims to become proactive in their
own
communities, resulting in the
development of domestic violence
organizations and victim resources in
many Muslim Communities Sa'idah
focuses on Women's issues and safety for
children.
Baitul
Hemayah, Inc., is an organization solely
devoted to ending domestic
violence in the Muslim and Non-Muslim
families by raising awareness for the
communities and spiritual leaders by
providing cultural sensitivity trainings
for
professionals, developing resources and
conducting research. Sa'idah has held
the
position as Essex County Domestic
Violence Task Force Coordinator. Baitul
Hemayah addresses domestic violence
issues, based upon the Quran and Sunnah
and
with Islamically grounded programs to
engender family dynamics and
domestic violence awareness. In
addition, Culture Sensitivity Training
for service providers and
professionals serving Islamic
clientele's provided.
Baitul
Hemayah, Inc., is in the process of
obtaining a domestic violence shelter
for women in Essex County and
an undisclosed county in North Carolina.

practices from both the Quran and
Sunnah and American Cultures. The staff
offers advice, as well as offering

Baitul Hemayah, Inc., is to prevent the occurrence of, as well as
intervene on
behalf of victims of
domestic abuse and/or violence to assure
that they get all
available services and
resources intended to ameliorate the
consequences to
address the cause of
domestic abuse and violence
Baitul
Hemayah is an anti-domestic violence
agency for domestic violence and
abused women. We believe that Islam
should never be used for abusive
behavior
or as
an excuse to beat and/or coerce women;
conversely, we believe that Islam
should be used as a resource to prevent
abuse and violence against women.
We truly
recognize that there are many cultures
that believe and perpetuate
violence, and this is why we seek to
change those attitudes and beliefs
through Islamic teachings, promoting
justice, and ensuring freedom from
oppression and family harmony.
